Firefighters respond to structure fire in Fairview | The Nelson Daily

A late evening fire in Fairview was quickly extinguished by Nelson Fire & Rescue Services Friday evening.

The structure fire was reported at 9:30 p.m. in the 600 Block of Third Street Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said in a media release Saturday.

“Both on duty members responded immediately with 15 additional members responding from home,” the Nelson Fire & Rescue Services media release said.

“Upon arrival of the first crew, there was visible smoke and flames coming from a basement bedroom window.”

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said the first arriving crew’s primary objective was to knock the flames down and prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the house.

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said the fire was extinguished in approximately 20 minutes.

“Crews spent the next few hours ensuring there was no further fire spread and began a fire investigation,” Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said.

“The fire appears to have originated in a basement suite bedroom (and) was contained the to this area.”

“Unfortunately, the rest of the basement suffered heavy smoke and heat damage,” Nelson Fire & Rescue Services added.

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services damages to the residence is estimated at $100,000 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services there were no injuries reported due to the fire.

Fifteen firefighters responded to the incident with two fire engines, and two utility vehicles. 

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said additional assistance was provided by two members from Nelson Police and two members from Nelson Hydro.
